It’s been over two years since Pinup Girl Clothing bought out the Ella Dress and said it was named after me (my real name for those of you who don’t know). Since then, the Ella Dress has become a super popular style amongst fans and it’s debuted in several different prints especially in the Mary Blair Collections.
I love the fit and style of the Ella and when I saw the new Ribbon Floral Print, I knew I had to have it. I did toss up between the versatility of a Jenny Skirt versus a Ella Dress but I took my own advice, and went with the dress since I could easily covert it to a skirt (tutorial here).
Before I go any further, I want to mention that this dress is sold out BUT there was such huge demand for it especially in the plus sizes that I have all my fingers and toes crossed for a restock for those who missed out.
I’ve been ordering from Pinup Girl Clothing for many years and whilst I haven’t ordered as much in the last year, I know that I am almost always a size small. So I went ahead and ordered that size as soon as this beautiful dress was released. I was a little surprised when it arrived to find that it fitted much more snug than I was expecting. My other Ella Dress is also a size small and fits beautifully but this version is definitely a smaller fit. The most noticeable difference is that I feel like the bust is slightly more shallow especially around the armpit. It still fits but I opt to wear it without a bra so I don’t have to worry about it peeping out the top.
For reference, I am 37″ in the bust and 27″ in the waist.
In hindsight, I probably should have consulted the size chart instead of just ordering my regular size as that might have informed me that indeed it would have been best to size up.
The print itself is really beautiful, the pale pink with delicate soft florals and blue ribbons is so romantic with that southern belle feeling. I really love how flattering the gathered bustline is with a fitted waist and sweeping skirt. The length on the Ella is one of the longest in the Pinup Girl Clothing swing collection and it has glorious, deep pockets.
I really think that the Ella Dress would look amazing in some solid cottons like blue, purple and even black but for now, let’s just hope that this beautiful print makes a comeback in the springtime.
Thank you to the lovely Katherine who not only took these pictures (The Undefined Photography) at Braemar House but also made my the hair flowers I’m wearing! They ended up matching my vintage jewellery absolutely perfectly and I hadn’t even shown her them prior… that’s talent!
