Vivien of Holloway is a proudly UK-made vintage reproduction company and been around since 2000. My first purchase from them was a few years ago, when I got the 1950s Halterneck Circle Dress in Black Polka Dot and red fluffy petticoat. I was super impressed by the quality of the fabric and the boning in the bust of the halterneck. And the petticoat? Totally hooked. These are the best petticoats on the market in my opinion! They are definitely on the top end for price, so I only own two and have to settle for the Hell Bunny Chiffon ones most of the time which are still lovely (and cheaper) but just not quite as amazing!
Vivien of Holloway were kind enough to send me the Grace Wrap Circle Dress in Wild Rose Print for the Miss Pinup New Zealand Competition! It was great to wear something that was my usual style- a floral swing dress- for the final section of the competition when we got asked a random question, and then be presented with the sash in it! You can read all about the competition here.
Now onto the dress!
The Grace Circle dress features and wrap style top, circle skirt and made from a lovely cotton sateen. The length of the dress is 28″ which is a great length on me (I am 5.6ft) but could be getting a little long if you are shorter.
The Grace Circle Dress goes from a size 10 (bust32/waist24) to a size 24 (bust46/waist38). Note that the sizing is not the same as regular high street sizing so make sure you check the size chart before ordering.
I actually sized down in this style from what the size chart said. I ordered the Grace Dress in Victory Rose last year from our engagement shoot and got the size 14. My bust measures 36″ and waist 27″ so I was sort of in between a 12 and 14. I had to get quite a bit taken in, even through the bust so I went with a 12 for this dress.
It fits absolutely perfectly with no alterations needed. Just beware of sizing down if you are broad in the shoulders, I’ve heard that can be a problem area with this particular style.
The circle skirt is perfect for twirling in… even better with a petticoat underneath!
The great thing about the wrap top is that you can alter it ever so slightly just by folding some of it under. I folded about a inch on each side so it didn’t come up so high on my chest.
They ship worldwide, have numerous stockists and even have a shop in London which I hope to visit one day!
