I’ve already done posts on Getting Ready and the ‘First Look’ and bridal party photos… now onto the Ceremony!
The Ceremony was due to start at 3.30pm so at about 3pm the boys headed to the church and my bridesmaids, Father and I hung out in the parlour room in the homestead while guests started arriving.
My Maid of Honour’s little 9 month old baby also arrived! Mackenzie was dressed in lavender to match and since she was still too young to walk down the aisle as a flowergirl, Alex carried her down instead.
By now I was a mix of nervous and excited! Then I realised at about 3.10pm that I had forgotten the marriage license at home! After initially panicking, we were assured that the Priest would still marry us, we would just need to go sign it the next day.
Feeling a little calmer, we walked to the church when it was time! Of course the rain had returned just in time… luckily it was just a short walk from the homestead to the church.
I think my Dad was pretty nervous! He had to practice pulling up my veil before we walked down the aisle.
We walked down the aisle to a orchestra version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ since I am such a Disney fan!
I was brought up Catholic and it was important to me for it to be a Catholic Ceremony. Matt and his family are not Catholics but were happy to go ahead with it. We had Monsignor Bernard Keily from St Patricks Cathedral in Auckland perform the ceremony who we have know for many years and is just so lovely.
Playing as we walked out of the church was the song from The Little Mermaid when Ariel and Eric get married at the end… Have I mentioned how much I love Disney yet? 😛
It’s funny how I hardly remember the kiss in the church, but I remember this moment just as we walked out more. We definitely felt more comfortable showing each other affection without 100 people looking at us! I’m so happy that Caron captured this.
After the ceremony, we had Pimms and canapes for guests as we took some group photos. These took much longer than expected and by the end of it Matt and I were both desperate for some food and a drink!
Thankfully by the time we all came out of the church, the rain had cleared and stayed away for the rest of the night! The Pimms and canapes were served from the barn and it was so lovely to see guests mingling and enjoying their drinks in such a picturesque area with the sun setting in the background!
Coming up in Part 4 of the series- The Reception!
