On Sunday, I had the pleasure of MC’ing the launch of the winter collection from CurvyCouture by Judy Dee.
The event was held at the amazing Hotel DeBrett in the heart of Auckland City and guest were treated to high tea, champagne, Hamilton Rockabilly band The Southern Diplomats playing and of course a full fashion show of the CurvyCouture line.
CurvyCouture by Judy Dee is proudly NZ made, bespoke retro and vintage inspired fashion for curvy ladies. Judy has a passion for vintage clothing and saw a need for New Zealand made plus size vintage and retro inspired garments. The range comes in sizes 16-24 but she can do custom orders to any size.
I first heard about Judy’s work when I saw Miss Vintage 2012’s (Michelle above) absolutely stunning wedding dress. I then contacted Judy and asked her to make my second wedding dress for the dancing and my green gown that I wore in the Miss Pinup New Zealand competition. I wore my wedding dress for the day, paired with a big, big beehive!
As guests were settling in and enjoying the delicious high tea, we were backstage getting all 9 models dressed! Judy was doing some last minute sewing, Michelle was giving the girls a catwalk demonstration in her knickers and I was just hoping I wasn’t going to do a monumental screw-up! Nothing like a bit of backstage tension haha!
When the time came for the models to strut their stuff, they looked so amazing! Judy has created some really lovely, timeless pieces with a bit of extra sass!
After the first set of dresses, we had a best dressed competition with the guests! We had four ladies strut their stuff on the runway and the winner was Debbie! I loved how put together Debbie’s outfit was with lots of red accents. She won a night at Hotel Debrett and a $100 Judy Dee Voucher… Lucky girl!
After that and some more tunes from the Southern Diplomats, we had another round of dresses from the CurvyCouture line- this time the evening dresses!
Above is the Rita dress and also comes in lurex red and green! Such a fabulous dress!
Plus, there was a surprise Acapella performance by Chrissie! She sang ‘Diamonds are a girls best friend’ and what a powerful voice she has!
It was a fantastic event and I was so impressed by the CurvyCouture Range! Thank you to Hotel DeBrett for hosting such a fabulous event, The Southern Diplomats for providing some sweet tunes, Shine The Dog Photography for all the photos, Michelle Crowfoot for organising and inviting me to MC and of course Judy herself… you really have produced a wonderful collection!
