Pin Up Passion Makeup Brushes

Apparently a girl can never have too many makeup brushes! My collection seems to be slowly growing and the hunt is always on for affordable brushes that won’t break the bank.

I’ve seen the Pin Up Passion brushes around for quite some time now, so I thought I would give them a go. I thought it it was a great idea to have a set of brushes that had everything you need for creating the pinup look. For just AU$57.99 for a set of 11, these eco and vegan friendly brushes are not only kind to the worlds animals and environment but also to your wallet!

All the brushes are synthetic, and for that price I wouldn’t expect anything else. Being honest, my opinion on these brushes is quite mixed so I’m going to go through them one by one.

Large Powder Brush

One of my favourites, this powder brush is super soft and a great size for buffing on powder. Normally I have steered clear of synthetic bristles for powder as they can not pick up the particles as well as natural. This one works really well and I love using it. Unfortunately the wooden base is starting to come unattached to the silver part of the brush. I’ve only been using it for about a month so it’s not a great sign of durability but nothing a bit of glue won’t fix.

Flat Foundation Brush

I don’t tend to use these types of brushes, preferring to use my fingers for liquid foundation and primer. I’ve tried this one a couple of times however for the purposes of this review and can’t complain. Whilst I have gone back to using my finger tips, this brush is lovely and does the trick.

Dual Foundation Brush

Once again, I don’t really use these types of brushes all that much but like the Flat Foundation Brush, I’ve tried it and can’t fault it. It’s a good size and the bristles are soft and the right length for still being able to get a bit of pressure. The last thing you want it is floppy bristles!

blushbrush Contour Brush

I love a good angled contour brush, and this one has become one of my favourites of the collection. The angle makes it super easy to define my cheekbones but you can also use the very tip of it for small detail work like the sides of your nose! The same lovely soft bristles of the Powder Brush, this one is a winner.

Blush Brush

A great size for a blush brush, not too big nor too small. It works best with powder blush as I find I can’t get it to work very well with my Besame Creme Rouge. With a creme blush, I prefer and shorter bristled brush to really be able to buff the product in, this brush’s bristles are just a little too long to be able to take that pressure. All in all though, it’s another great brush for the kit.

Lips and Eyes

Lip Brush

I LOVE these kinds of lip brushes! Because I have a couple of lip palettes, these brushes are great for builiding up a bit of the lippy onto the brush, popping it in your handbag and then you can do touchups without having to take the whole palette. I seem to be forever loosing them however so I was very happy to receive another. It’s a great little brush, the perfect size and shape of bristles for precision when applying a red lippy!

Flat Eyeshadow Brush

You actually get two of these brushes in this kit. Unfortunately these are my least favourite of the bunch. They are too stiff and flat to be able to pick up eyeshadow  and the only use I have found for them is as a undereye smudger. For products like eyeshadows, you really need either natural bristles or it needs to be a soft brush where the bristles are quite so compact so the particles can be picked up easily.

Round Eyeshadow Brush

This one is a little better than the last but still not perfect. I find it just a touch too big and the bristles too long and floppy for  me to be able to get good use out of it. I mainly use it for the contour of the eye. It works great as a subtle contour but if I want it more defined, I have to go back to a smaller brush as this one is just too big for that area.

Angled Eyebrow Brush

Another favourite, this dainty little brush is awesome for defining eyebrows and getting nice clean lines and precision at the ends! It’s now my go-to eyebrow brush!

Eyelash/Eyebrow Brush

I use the bristle part of this brush daily for soften my eyebrows after I have filled them in. It’s a great staple tool to have in your makeup brush kit and perfect especially for softening the inner ends of your brows. I haven’t really used the comb part of this brush on my eyelashes but it is great for combing your brow hairs up for trimming!

The Verdict?

Whilst these has been some definite duds in this set, I still consider it a success for the price. I have 5 favourites that I will now use daily so that’s still only just over $10 each! This is a great starting out pack or for those of you more seasoned in makeup, for adding a few extras to your kit. I would have liked to have seen a small eyeliner brush in this kit to complete it and be able to say that it you could create a entire pinup look with the set.

I remember going to IMATS in Sydney a few years ago and seeing brushes for over $300! I really don’t think you need to spend anywhere near that! If you’d prefer to get natural bristles, try crownbrush.com- I especially love their Luna Badger series and have a couple of brushes from that collection which are still in great condition after 3 or 4 years!
