The Holi Boli India Dress

I love supporting small local businesses so when Natalie of Two Lippy Ladies in Napier contacted me about some new dresses they were making, I was thrilled to get to be one of the first to receive one!

The India dress is a collaboration between Two Lippy Ladies and Holi Boli. Holi Boli is a New Zealand company based in India with a social conscience.

They have a sewing school and production team and profits are put back into vocational projects in Rural India.

Ana from Holi Boli finds fabric at her local markets and buys the whole bolt so all fabrics are limited edition.

Natalie and Ana have come up with two versatile 50s dresses- this one and another one with cap sleeves.

The India Dress is 100% cotton and comes in this lovely deep purple colour with accents of turquoise- a beautiful colour palette and nothing like I have already.

I decided to wear turquoise/mint accessories to to bring out the colours in the dress. Featuring a V neckline and waist tie, this comfortable dress is great as a day dress or glammed up for a night out.

The pale blue cropped cardigan from Pinup Girl Clothing is also a perfect match and a combination I will definitely be using until the weather warms up here in Auckland.

I originally tried a size S but the bust runs a size 10 in this style so I went up to a 12. The waist is quite big but with the ties, it is easily cinched in.

I love the length on this dress, it hits just below the knee. The skirt isn’t quite full enough for a super poofy petticoat but it has a good amount of volume on it’s own.

You could definitely wear a petti underneath, it would just need to be one that isn’t too volumous or even go for this canvas underskirt.

These dresses sell on the Two Lippy Ladies website for NZ$129 and goes up to a size 16. The India style also comes in a fresh Tangerine colour. Be sure to check out India’s cap sleeve sister, the Holi Dress!

It’s great to be able to support a company that you know is doing real good over in India and definitely NOT using child slave labour to produce their dresses.

We need more companies taking a stand like Holi Boli and Two Lippy Ladies!

Thank you to the always delightful Elizabeth J Photography for another fabulous shoot. The Auckland Botanic Gardens were a stunning backdrop and Liz is always a dream to work with! Contact her for your next portrait, glamour or family shoot.
