When Laura of Australian brand Pigtails and Pirates contacted me about sending me one of her dresses to try, I was over the moon! I had been following her on Instagram and loved the simple dress styles with such fabulous prints!
Laura had some new fabrics coming in and I picked out The Sweet Melody Dress in Green. I must say, I initially thought about picking one of the other two colours which were blue and pink but since I don’t have that much green, I went with it!
I am so glad I did, it is a welcome addition to my collection and I love the soft hue of the green with bold pinks in the print.
Elizabeth J Photography and I were down at Woodlands Estate in Gordonton for a combined shoot with Handcrafted Stories and took these pictures in the beautiful gardens after we were done.
I want to just state/remind all my fabulous readers that whilst my blog is a mix of sponsored items and things that I have bought with my own money,
I promise to always be completely honest! I value honesty immensely, especially when it comes to giving recommendations for products for readers to potentially spend their hard earned cash on.
I turn away a lot of offers if they don’t fit my taste or aesthetic as I don’t want to feel obliged to sing praise about something I don’t truly love.
With all that said, I now have this to say. The Sweet Melody Dress is just about damn perfect. It ticks all the boxes that I love in a dress… well constructed, fully-lined bodice, sweetheart neckline, fat straps, fitted through the waist, invisible zip, full circle skirt and the perfect length for my Vivien of Holloway Petticoats.
The only TEENY TINY MINOR non-perfect thing I could say about this dress is that I found the straps would slightly fall off my shoulder. But that’s it… easily fixed and potentially not a problem for others depending on your shape/height.
I love that Laura has thought about the placement of the print when constructing the dress. It’s a simple thing that not everyone would notice, but it’s great to have the pattern centred in the bust so it looks symmetrical and isn’t weirdly off centre.
The green orchids are from The Sophisticated Lady on Etsy and were a perfect match for the green of the dress.
The cut and shape of this dress is really flattering- the sweetheart neckline isn’t too low and the thicker straps make it easy to wear as you don’t have to worry about what bra you are going to wear!
I am wearing the size 8 which according to the size chart, accommodates a 90cm bust and 70cm waist- I’d say that the Sweet Melody Dress is spot on with the size chart and you can order with assurance that it’s not going to fit differently to what is stated.
However, since they are all cotton dresses, they don’t have stretch so I would recommend sizing up if you are between sizes.
The Sweet Melody Dress is available for preorder on the website for AU$199, it will be ready for shipping in approximately 2 weeks. Pigtails and Pirates offer free shipping within Australia for orders over $150 and a international flat rate of just $15!
They also offer a custom service so get in touch if you are after something specific for a event or just don’t see your size in something on the website.
There is a wonderful range of dresses, skirts and kids clothing on Pigtails and Pirates. There are various dress styles too and I especially like the look of the cut of the Garden Path Dress– another green beauty!
As always, a special thanks to Elizabeth J Photography for the wonderful set of photos. I think we will have to revisit Woodlands… it’s such a beautiful location!
