Everyone loves finding their favourite brands at a lower price, right? Well I’ll let you in on a little secret… Daddy-O’s stock some of the biggest brands in the vintage reproduction world and their prices can be significantly cheaper than if you buy direct from the brand themselves!
Daddy-O’s have a number of various brands for women including Voodoo Vixen, Steady and Lucky 13 but the bulk of their dresses are from Stop Staring. I’ve always found Stop Staring to be a little overpriced for the quality, a lot of them are between US$170-$197, however on Daddy-O’s, they are mostly between US$89-$120 which is much more affordable.
Matt and I were both offered to pick out a item of our choice. I took the opportunity to try the Stop Staring Chelsea Polka Dot Doll Dress and Matt, ever the mustard lover, went with the Steady Golden Classic Shirt.
Stop Staring seem to do A LOT of wiggle dresses and from past experience, I know they can run very small in the hips, so I decided a swing dress would be safest. With a abundance of florals and bright colours in my wardrobe, I’ve been leaning more towards more muted tones and *gasp* black recently. The Chelsea Dress caught my eye because of the oh-so-cute collar and button detail on the bodice.
I have a couple of Stop Staring dresses already and knew that I would probably be a size medium and the size chart listed on the Daddy-O’s website confirmed that. My bust measures 36″ and waist is 27.5″ and the medium fits perfectly and thanks to the hint of stretch in the fabric, it’s also very comfortable.
I love it when dresses are really fitted through the top and especially with a high neckline such as the Chelsea. Sometimes I feel a little matronly if a dress has a high, baggy neckline but this was not a problem.
I was a little concerned about the sleeves being too tight since the piping would mean there would be no stretch but thankfully it’s ok and I think they stretched out even a little more with movement.
The skirt of the Chelsea Dress is lovely and full and I could fit my voluminous Vivien of Holloway petticoat underneath for a pop of colour. I love accessorising black+white with pops of red but you can pick any colour- baby pink or purple would be my next choice.
The Chelsea Dress is US$89.95 and comes in sizes Small-3XL. It’s made from a poly/cotton blend and is unlined.
Matt has never been a man to shy away from colours and he seems to really gravitate towards earthy tones. I myself quite like the look of the 50’s bowler shirts but he’s not a fan for some reason. So, the solid colour of the Steady Golden Classic Shirt with the added detail of the Cadillac inspired logo and pinstripe won him over when picking something out.
In typical husband style, I had nag him to measure himself and figure out what size he needed. I’m 99% sure he didn’t quite get the measurements right because the size XL seems a touch too big BUT Matt loves that it’s a little baggier than his normal slim fit shirts.
Matt really appreciates that the shirt is made from a light polyester material that doesn’t wrinkle easily and says it’s going to be a great summer shirt.
He styled the shirt with his favourite black jeans and brown dress shoes to tie in the warm tones of the golden mustard colour.
The Steady Golden Classic Shirt is US46.95 and comes in sizes Medium-3XL
Thank you to Elizabeth J Photography for another fabulous set of photos. It was fun to have Matt involved for a change too and he was a natural in front of the camera! I hope to have him on here more!
