In recent months, I’ve developed a pretty serious love for tartans and plaids. There has been a abundance of them across a number of vintage reproduction brands in the northern hemisphere since it’s now their wintertime and I loved that the Carrie Dress by Miss Fortune would work for me in our New Zealand summer but still featured a gorgeous plaid fabric.
It also has one of my all-time favourite colours- PURPLE- so it really was a match made in heaven.
The tartan of the Carrie Dress is beautiful- the main colours are black and white but then there is a sparkly purple thread running throughout the pattern. This is then tied in with the purple trim on the neckline and I chose to continue the theme by adding my own purple belt (it comes with a removable black belt) and a purple headscarf and petticoat.
The fabric itself is lovely and soft but still light enough that I can wear it in warmer weather. I only own a few other Miss Fortune pieces but from them I’ve come to expect high quality construction and fit. The Carrie Dress is no different, the instant I put it on, I felt amazing! It fits like a dream and the higher neckline seems to really enhance my shape.
I expressed my love for off the shoulder styles in last weeks blog post and I adore the different take on a off the shoulder style that the Carrie provides. The neckline isn’t too low and features elasticated straps which not only help to keep everything in place but looks cute too!
Bra options with a off the shoulder style can always be a little tricky but since the Carrie has the elasticized straps, you could try wearing a regular bra with it and position the straps over the top. I chose to just wear a strapless bra so that I didn’t have to worry about the straps showing during the shoot.
The length on the Carrie is perfect and has a full skirt that flares from the waist. My bust measures 36″ and waist is around 27″ which puts me in between the size small and medium according to the size chart.
In my last Miss Fortune reviews (here and here), I was wearing the size medium in the tops and found them to be a little big so for this, I sized down to the small. Even though the listed bust measurement for a small is 34″, so quite significantly smaller than my bust, it fits perfectly and I love how fitted the bodice feels.
If you are inbetween sizes, I think you’d be safe to size down like I have but if in doubt, ask customer service to clarify.
The Carrie Dress is going to be one of those dresses that works across all seasons and I’m excited to try converting it to a skirt and wearing it with my Purple Lurex Simple Pleasures Top to switch it up a little!
If tartan isn’t your thing, there are 6 other styles in the Carrie Dress that might take your fancy!
The Carrie Dress is £57.98 and comes in sizes XS-2XL.
Thank you to Elizabeth J Photography for the beautiful photos- we took them down at Westhaven Marina for something a little different and were happy to have a few patches of blue sky in the background!
