I love the subtle sexiness of a off the shoulder style and the Fatale Dress from The Pretty Dress Company combines this with classic black and white gingham.
Gingham is one of those patterns that stands the test of time and can so easily be dressed up or down depending on how you choose to accessorise. The Fatale Dress has become a fast favourite from The Pretty Dress Company range and comes in various styles – a swing, wiggle and even fishtail gown.
The Fatale features a ode to the sweetheart neckline with off the shoulder sleeves. The construction of the bust is unparalled to any other off the shoulder styles I’ve tried before. The boning in the bust ensures that the top stays up and the entire thing is so well constructed, you feel completely safe from any potential wardrobe malfunctions.
Thanks to the slight upwards curve from the centre of the neckline, I don’t get any ‘armpit cleavage’ which I find can be the one downside of a off the shoulder style.
The top of the sleeves has some stretchy gathering to help ease movement but I would have loved it if the bottom of the sleeve had the same gathering as I find the sleeves to be on the tighter side, especially since the fabric has no stretch. As it is now, I don’t think I will be able to wear this dress to work as I need to be able to lift my arms up easily when cutting hair. I’m going to see if I can have a elastic band inserted on the underside to help make this better.
I’m a total sucker for a swing skirt which is why I decided to go for this style over the pencil and I’m so glad I did. The detail and construction on the bottom half of this dress is just as good as the top. It has a built in tulle petticoat which actually adds sufficient volume by itself. Me being me though, I had to of course add another petticoat for ultimate fullness.
I’m wearing a size 10 which is very fitted on me, especially though the bust. My measurements (36″ bust/27.5″ waist) put me between the size 10 and 12 and I probably could have sized up to the 12 but I like that the fitted top really pushes up my bust.
The Gingham Fatale Dress is fully lined with a concealed back zipper. It comes in sizes 8-18 and is £185.00. At that kind of price, this is more than the usual daily wear dress for most ladies but rest assured if you do decide to purchase that the quality and construction is fabulous.
