If I had to pick one thing out of my collection of clothing, shoes, jewellery etc as being the most visually satisfying… well, it would have to be my beautiful wall of hair flowers! I’ve been collecting them for years now and there’s nothing better than looking at them all organised like a rainbow.
A collection of hair flowers is something that I consider to be a essential to a pinup wardrobe. You don’t have to have tons of them, just the essential colours like red, white, pink etc… whatever colours you wear most of! Being able to add a matching flower to compliment your outfit is the perfect finishing touch and can also help spruce up a bad hair day or just simple ponytail for when you are rushing out the door.
I was recently introduced to Shazam Pin Up Hair Flowers over in the UK. I hadn’t heard about them but I now know that I would have seen their creations multiple times over the years as they are stocked at one of my favourite stores, Vivien of Holloway, as well as various other vintage shops like Miss Bamboo in Manchester, Blackout II in London and Bennies Fifties in Amsterdam. However, their full range is only available through their website.
The artist behind these gorgeous creations has not only been into the vintage scene since she was a teenager but also has over 35 years experience as a florist. I really love the way that Jan constructs and composes her pieces and can see her floristry influence coming though.
I’ve got three of Jan’s beautiful works of art to show off today because I often get asked about where to find hair flowers from!
Since I have a deep love for purple, I figured that that I definitely needed the stunning purple orchid and delphinium arrangement. Purple and copper hair looks wonderful together!
This particular piece has two mini duckbill clips attached to the back so you can make sure it’s safe and secure. I love the more oval shape to this piece and can imagine it looking amazing at the base of a 1940s Gibson Roll.

The next arrangement is just so sweet and reminds me of rustic English cottages in spring. I totally loved the miniature roses paired with sprigs of green and tiny berries. Once again, I feel like this piece really lends itself well to 1940s styling with it’s slightly more subtle colours.

Last but not least and possibly my favourite of the bunch (if I really had to pick just one!) is this beautiful pink rose arrangement. Not only the colours are truly stunning but I love the smaller rose buds and the overall shape of the piece. It’s a gorgeous example of Jan’s artistry as a florist!

One of the best things about all three of these floral pieces is that depending on which way you position them or which side of your head you wear them on, they will look slightly different and unique.
