It’s hard to believe that I’ve been blogging for over two years and today is the first swimsuit post! I was a little bit scarred from all the horrible feelings that swimsuits used to make me feel and whilst I’m at a much better place with my body now than I was 5 years ago, bikini’s and swimsuits still felt a little scary.
This fear disappeared when I discovered how wonderfully SugarDollSwim bikini’s fit my curves. A year ago I tried a bikini from another retro store and the XL bottoms wouldn’t even come up past my upper thigh… That experience didn’t exactly make me feel great. But holy guacamole, I feel like a BEACH BABE when I put on this Polka Dot Bikini from SugarDollSwim!
Firstly, it’s totally awesome that you buy the tops and bottoms separately. This makes it easier for us ladies who need different sizes for our bust and hips, and it means that you can mix and match the patterns if you so desire.
Getting the sizing right for the bottoms was something I was a little worried about as I am so wide across the upper thighs. I consulted the size chart and went for a size Large which caters for a 39″-42″ hip (I’m 42″). This is a great fit, firm so it smooths me down a little but not overly tight. One problem I sometimes encounter is the leg opening not being big enough and so over a few hours, it cuts into my inner thigh and becomes very uncomfortable. Thankfully, I have no issues with any of my SugarDoll bikini bottoms.
There is a little bit of gaping at the back but I am significantly smaller at my waist so this is something I expected and very common with any pants or shorts.
I love the shape of these May Bow Bikini Bottoms, they come up right to the belly button and the slight ‘V’ at the front is very flattering. Finished off with a bow, skirted panel at the front and nice coverage at the back, this bikini bottom makes me feel so comfortable!
To match the May Bow Bikini Bottoms, I’m wearing the Sue Retro Halter Top. With some of my other SugarDollSwim Tops that don’t have a back tie, I wear a size Medium. However, the Medium was sold out at the time so I went up to a Large since this has ties at the back so I could easily ensure it fit. Plus, a little extra room for the girls is always a good thing, right?
Looking at the size chart, my bust measurement (36″) can be either a Medium or Large so I think it just depends on the style of top. This is my favourite style out of all the SugarDollSwim bikini tops I’ve tried. It holds me in perfectly with ample coverage and soft padding. I love having both a halterneck tie and back tie as it makes getting it on/off really easy and it’s a perfect fit every time. Plus, the bows are just adorable.
Here are some tips for prolonging the life of your swimwear-
-After swimming, hand wash with mild soap and fresh water. The chlorine from a pool or salt water will eventually make the fabric brittle if not rinsed.
-Try to avoid as much contact with oils/sunscreen as possible as this will break down the fabric.
-Alternate between swimsuits. Lycra is a memory yarn and so needs 24 hours to properly dry and go back to it’s natural shape.
A big thank you to Elizabeth J Photography for taking my first ever swimwear photos. I’ll admit, I was a little nervous but I’m loving the results and wish I’d found this bikini years ago when I was too self-conscious to swim at the beach!
Oh and by the way, there hasn’t been any editing/smoothing to my body at all on their photos, this is exactly how I come <3 Every Body is a Beach Body
