Autumn Leaves Emmy Designs

Autumn has always been my favourite season. Back in New Zealand, it always seemed perfect to me as there was less rain than Spring and the temperatures were cool enough to be more comfortable than the humidity of Summer but not to the point of having to completely cover up.

Now that I’m in the Northern Hemisphere experiencing my first UK Autumn, my love for this season is well and truly cemented. Seeing the trees and landscapes change give me such joy on a day to day basis and I find myself constantly looking up when walking around my neighbourhood. There’s even a tree outside our kitchen window that has slowly turned the most glorious shade of red and in the last week has started exposing more and more bare branches.

My admiration for Autumn as led me to become really inspired recently when choosing colours for my outfits. I can’t get enough of mustards, browns and tans and so when I saw the new Emmy Designs Autumn Leaves print, I fell head over heels in autumnal love.

This print combines my love for both subtle earthy tones and bright bold colours. The golden mustard and brown leaves against the rich teal background make everything just pop beautifully and I knew it would be perfect with my hair colour.

There’s two dresses available in this stunning print and I chose the Rock Around The Clock style as loved the gathered skirt and knew the bodice would be complimented by a cardigan beautifully.

Featuring a V neck with little buttons down the front, pockets, cap sleeves, fitted waist and gathered skirt, this dress accentuates the waist especially if you wear a petticoat underneath!

The fabric is a beautiful crêpe that has some stretch to it meaning that this dress is super comfortable to wear. I’m wearing a size 38 which is fitted and snug – just the way I like it. I’m 37″ in the bust and 27″ in the waist which is pretty bang on with the size chart.
One thing to note is that it’s a little short in the waist for me but I am long in the back and do encounter this from time to time. I simply added a belt to help cinch it in where my natural waist is.

The Rock Around The Clock Dress is €187.20 / £143.20 / USD$203 (excluding VAT), comes in sizes 36-52 and also available in two other solid colours.

One of my favourite things about Emmy is their gorgeous cosy sweaters they do most seasons. While expensive, they last through multiple seasons and I get so much wear out of them. The Ice Skater style in particular is my favourite as the knit is thick and has some stretch to it but really maintains it’s shape. I also absolutely love that they stop at the waist meaning you can wear them out and open or if you do decide to tuck them in, they won’t create bulky bulges underneath your clothes.

Because of all the beautiful colours in the Autumn Leaves print, you could choose either Antique Gold, Cinnamon or Petroleum Ice Skater Sweater to go with it. I picked the Petroleum to really contrast against the golden colours in the dress, accessories and my hair.

I’ve own a few of these cardigans now and all are the 38/40 size. After getting to try on both the 34/36 and the 38/40 at Revival Retro, I decided that I preferred the smaller size more. It means that when wearing it out and open, I still feel like I have a flattering and streamlined look since these cardigans are quite bulky.

The Ice Skater Cardigan is €130.40/ £98.40 / USD$142, comes in sizes 34/36 – 50/52 and available in several other colours. Some sizes are sold out so check their stockists if you’ve missed out.

Emmy never fails to produce outfits that quickly become all-time favourites for me and I’m always excited to see what they come out with. I’m hoping for some more pastel cardigans or sweaters next Spring/Summer… especially a pink!

Thank you to David Fisk Photography for capturing this outfit in all it’s autumnal glory in the gardens of Hampton Court Palace. It was a rather gloomy morning with threatening rain but David managed to really bring out the warmth of this combo in the photos!
