With the Christmas and New Years season fast approaching, it’s time to bring out the sequinned, sparkly and glamorous party dresses! I’m much more of a gold gal over silver and this shimmery Rita Dress by Zoe Vine has the perfect balance of gold without being too crazy shiny. We want glamour, not an 80’s Ice Skating get-up, right ladies?
Whilst I am (and I think always will be) in love with the drama of a full skirt with a fluffy petticoat underneath, it’s been nice to recently add some sleeker, more streamlined styles to my wardrobe. The latest collection from Zoe Vine features a lot of this sort of style, it’s very much a more modern take on the vintage aesthetic and I think easily accessible to those who love the vibe but still perhaps want to wear modern hair or accessories with it.
The Rita Dress in Gold really stood out for me in this latest collection. It’s draping sleeves, ruched waistband and glorious soft gold fabric is all so beautiful together.
The skirt is actually quite full so you could fit a petticoat underneath however because of the nature of the fabric, I think it looks best without one. The Rita is made from a polyester/elasthan blend and is on the thinner side (without feeling flimsy or cheap) so it wouldn’t hang as nicely over a petticoat like a cotton would.
The fabric has stretch to it and the bodice lining also has stretch while adding that extra structure needed around the bust area. You do need to be careful about what bra you wear with this dress as it has the potential to show bumps from lace or other details.
I’m wearing a size 10 which is my usual size with Zoe Vine so long as it has stretch. According to the size chart, my bust (37″) should have a size 14 and waist (27″) should have a size 10 so I think you can definitely afford to size down in the bust area if you want a more fitted look. The great thing about this dress is that due to the soft draping sleeves and overall style, if the bust area were to be a little roomy, I don’t think it would matter.
The waist still has some give but because of the nature of the seams and gathers there, not quite as much as the bust.
The Rita Dress comes in 8-16 (XS-XL) and is £115. International shipping is free for orders over £100 which is pretty fabulous!
Thank you ever so much to Nicole Engelmann Photography for the beautiful set of photos. We took these back in September when the weather was still warm but I wanted to save this dress for closer to Christmas time.
