Many of you will have heard of TopVintage Boutique especially if you are in the UK or Europe. They are a powerhouse in the vintage reproduction distribution and stock some of the best brands out there. With what started in Angelique’s living room 9 years ago, it has grown exponentially and now offers it’s very first house brand – Vintage Diva by TopVintage.
I was invited to try the Dovima Swing Dress in Navy which is one of the dresses available in the first release. I’ve always been partial to a sailor inspired dress and so this navy beauty with red and white accents really called my name.
The Dovima Swing Dress is made out of a stretchy, comfortable bengaline fabric with a white trim around the neckline, lovely ‘V’ cut-out detail in the middle, a removable red bow and matching navy belt. I really love that Vintage Diva made the bow removable as it gives it a little more versatility – wear the Dovima with the bow for daytime casual or without for a little sophistication.
I tend to be either a size small or medium depending on the brand and for this dress, I took a size small. My 37″ bust is at the higher end of the listed measurement for a size small and my 27″ waist at the lower end. I think the fit for the small was spot on for me and thankfully the thing about bengaline is that there’s always a bit of leeway with sizing. The bust is lovely and fitted and waist is very close to being perfect – I could almost get away with not wearing a belt but since I found this to be a tiny bit short waisted on me (I’m long in the body so this isn’t a uncommon problem for me), I used the belt to cinch it to my natural waist.
The dress also has box pleats at the waist, creating a lovely smooth line, cap sleeves (which are probably my favourite) and hidden bra strap holders which is just such a great touch! A lot of vintage dresses will have bra strap holders and they are such simple, nifty little things.
The one thing I would change about this dress is the length – personally my preferred hemline length is further below the knee and as you can see this is a little bit shorter than that. It’s certainly not enough to prevent me from wearing it though!
Overall I’m really impressed with the quality and fit of the Dovima Dress – the quality of the material used and construction of the style is fabulous and I’m really looking forward to seeing what else they have in store for us!
Thank you to the very talented Tigz Rice for these gorgeous photos and to Mr Fogg’s Gin Parlour for letting us take over their beautiful premises for the afternoon. It’s such a wonderful establishment, I’m definitely going to go back there with my gin-loving husband for a drink or two!
