Last weekend Matt and I headed off to Disneyland Paris on Friday afternoon for Dapper Day on the Saturday. Ever since we moved to London, I knew I wanted to make the trip to Disneyland Paris so this seemed like the perfect time.
For those of you who don’t know what Dapper Day is, it’s a twice yearly event that encourages guests to step out in their Sunday best. Since Disneyland has a distinctive 1950s style to it in some areas due to that being the decade the first park was built, it’s a perfect day for us mid-century lovers although any decade is welcome. It’s not a day for costumes or cosplay, more for celebrating the tradition of stepping out in style.
Of course the Anaheim and Orlando events have huge attendance as well as the Dapper Day Expo the day before. Paris I think is still rather small but I was excited to see so many well dressed men and women!
When putting together my outfit for Dapper Day, I knew I wanted something very spring-time although the weather actually ended up being far from it! We had rain and drizzle on and off all day with a bit of a chill to the air.
One of my favourite dress styles I own is the Fatale Dress by The Pretty Dress Company. I love the style and silhouette and it never fails to make me feel glamorous. The Black with Red Rose Embroidery is a coveted piece in my wardrobe and I’ve loved the Ivory version for forever. Since I’d recently acquired a fabulous red vintage hat, I thought the two together would be a perfect pairing for Dapper Day.
Next, I needed to make sure I had some appropriate shoes! As much as I wanted to wear some of my low red heels, I knew that even though they are actually quite comfortable, a day at Disneyland could be pushing it. So I went in search of red flats instead and found this pair from New Look. The ties are meant to go up the leg but I found the slipped down since I was wearing stockings to keep me warm so I ended up tying them just around my ankle after a while.
In a last minute panic the week before we left, I ordered a red handbag from Revival Retro as I didn’t have one to match the outfit as well as a matching umbrella when I realised the likelihood for rain was high – a big black umbrella would have really clashed!
Finally, I needed something to keep me warm. I didn’t really have a coat that was suitable as they are all either the wrong colour or just too warm. So instead, I opted for draping a cardigan over my shoulders in a very preppy 1950s fashion and secured with vintage cardigan clips.

I really love these kind of events where you have weeks to prepare the perfect outfit and hunting down all the right accessories to finalize the look. Even through the weather wasn’t as good as we had hoped, we still had a ton of fun and now have our sights set on Dapper Day in California although that might be a year or two away!
