Revival Retro Love List | May

It’s time again for another Revival Retro Love List! I absolutely adore visiting the London boutique, not just for it’s gorgeous array of high quality garments but also for the fabulous ladies who work there. They really give the best customer service possible and since my arrival in London, I’ve also been lucky enough to be able to now call them friends too.

With spring now well and truly here, I decided to put together a few fresh colourful outfits using the new Spring/Summer range from Revival Retro. Since my April post, Revival now has a concession stand from Atelier Millinery, full of beautifully crafted hats.

For my first look, I couldn’t resist the bright hue of the Sophia Yellow 1950s Dress!

I love yellow, from pale lemon to true mustard and this dress is a lovely shade – it’s almost verging on a slight mustard which keeps it from being that garish highlighter yellow.. The material is 100% Ramie which I’ll be honest, I’ve never heard of before! But it reminded me of a linen and or woven cotton and made me feel very sophisticated, like I should be at a royal tea party!

My sizing tends to vary a fair bit depending on the brand but more often than not, I’m a UK size 10. For this dress however I was able to size down to a 8 which fitted my waist a lot better while still not being too tight in the bust or shoulders. With a gorgeous summery dress like this, I felt like a large statement hat was definitely in order and since Revival Retro now hosts Atelier Millinery in store, I was able to pick out this fantastic wide-brimmed number. The texture of the hat matched that of the dress really well and continued the sophisticated summer vibe.

As for the rest of the accessories, a safe and classic option would be to continue with a off-white (these Remix Shoes would look wonderful) but I felt like adding a extra pop of colour. Red was my colour of choice and I especially liked that these Gatsby Shoes have to white in them too to help tie in with the hat. To match the red patent of the shoes, I added the Kelly Handbag in Red and a bangle (available in store) for the final touch.

The next ensemble I put together came to be by starting with the fabulously floaty 50s Style Dress by Emmy in cream linen. Often ladies are afraid of wearing white outside of being a bride, but the key is how you accessorize and of course the style/fabric of the dress- a white satin or lace is certainly going to look more bridal.

This linen used for this dress is super soft and drapes beautifully. I have the same style in the gorgeous Autumn Leaf print from last season and I love the shape of the neckline and the button details at the waist. To create a slightly more casual vibe, I added pops of Navy and Red, with the comfortable and casual Lido WedgesSilk ScarfLeather Shoulder Bag and of course a matching bangle stack.

Finally, I simply had to try on the Romantic 1920s Day Dress as I spied the delicate embroidery and beading and fell a little bit in love! I’ve never really ventured into 1920s style as the typical Flapper dresses don’t feel like they suit me. However this utterly gorgeous dress has a drawstring waist meaning that I felt like I could define my shape a little more. The dress is made of a biscuit coloured tulle with split butterfly sleeves and I love that it would be completely feasible to wear it either for night-time or daytime.

I added Gold Balboa Shoes, 1920s Feather Headband and of course some long Charleston Beads in Latte to complete the look.

So those are my current favourite looks available from Revival Retro! Do take a look at their website as they’ve got a great range of 1920s-1950s styles right now as well as one of the best vintage style shoe collections out there spanning several high quality brands.

You can visit Revival Retro at Fitzrovia in London or shop online – they ship internationally.

Catch up on March and April’s Love Lists and I’ll be back again next month for June!
