Tahitian 50s Dress | HELL BUNNY

Summer has most definitely hit Britain. Temperatures are getting so hot, that you really do have to think about what you are going to wear and weather it’s going to keep you cool enough! Swing dresses are always a no-brainer for me and preferably little-to-no sleeve as it helps to keep your arms, chest and back relatively cool – just make sure you are religiously applying sunscreen!

I love a tropical inspired print and the Tahitian 50s Dress by Hell Bunny really caught my eye. So often a tropical print can be super bright so I love that the colours in this style are just that little softer and more muted. Plus, I’m a major sucker for buttons and ESPEICALLY cute wee wooden buttons like the one featured on this dress.

The Tahitian 50s Dress features a V neckline with nice, medium width straps that mean you probably won’t have to worry about wearing a strapless bra. The straps are adjustable via the buttons that connect the straps to the bodice. I need to wear the straps on the tighter setting and if you need it even tighter than that, you can simply re-sew the buttons higher up the strap.

This dress is made out of a 98% cotton / 2% elastane fabric, and that combined with the ultra full and floaty swing skirt means that it’s a great dress for keeping cool in during the summer.

As for sizing, I found this dress to run rather big! In previous Autumn/Winter Hell Bunny posts, I wore all size mediums. I did feel like I potentially could have sized down in one or two of the dresses so thought I’d try a size Small for this one. In the end, I still found it a tiny bit big and think I could probably have got away with the XS. It’s really just that around the back is a little loose but that Small does still work. So my advice would be to consult the size chart and think about trying the size down. For reference, I’m 37″ in the bust and 27″ in the waist.

With the more muted palette in this print, I decided to stick to earthy tones with the majority of my accessories and also to help bring out the wooden button detailing. But you could also easily add highlights of burgundy or green to this print!

The Tahitian 50s Dress comes in sizes XS-4XL but it’s completely sold out on the Hell Bunny website. However, don’t despair as there are quite a few retailers that have it in stock if you do some digging and Hell Bunny will be restocking it for next Summer.

Thank you to David Fisk Photography for taking these beautiful photos inside the Isabella Plantation at Richmond Park. It’s the perfect place for a summer picnic and if you live in London, you can even get a boat from Westminster to Richmond and really make a day of it!

  1. Oh I love this dress! But I’m really wondering how this would work with my smaller bust, these sisters aren’t really gifted in their size. I’ve bought 2 dresses of Hell Bunny so far and both are pretty big around my chest, had to ask my grandma to make them a bit smaller 🙁
Guess I’ll have to pay my grandma a visit again if I get to buy this dress!

  2. I’ve found with recent Hell Bunny purchases I am able to wear a medium comfortably, when I’m normally XL!

  3. Do the buttons down the front bodice work, or are they just for show? Could be a good option for breastfeeding ladies if they do work.

  4. I tried on this dress and it really does look lovely. The bust is gorgeous, but I just simply don’t like the buttons and the colorway doesn’t work for my skin, so it wasn’t one for me 🙂

  5. I find Hell Bunny come up a bit too big around the bust, but I love the colours on this dress. I am considering buying the Isabelle dress from and was wondering if you had plans to review any of their dresses in the near future.
