Violet & Green | Emmy Designs

Tartans and plaids have slowly taken over my winter wardrobe over the years thanks to their versatility and multiple colour combination options! While floral prints can be a little harder to pull off in winter if you have to wear black tights to keep warm, a plaid is the perfect print to give a little life to your winter wardrobe and avoid feeling dull and boring in the colder months!

I’m always a little sad at the turn of the seasons when it’s time to retire my tartan collection until the next winter but I love that you can still sometimes find a more summery tartan every once and while! When Emmy Designs previewed their drool worthy Violet and Green, I 100% KNEW it had to be mine. Like, it’d be rude not to right? Violet and Green is just the most fabulous colour combos ever! And then I saw the Susie Q Cardigan Colours that were to be released and my head just about exploded – the Violet Colourway was just THE perfect addition. True love.

I love this print so much, I actually own it in both the skirt AND the dress. Ridiculous I know, but it had to happen. The Rock Around The Clock Dress is one that Emmy have done before, it’s a really lovely shape with beautiful details. Inspired by 1950s silhouettes, this dress has cap sleeves, back zipper, modest V neck, decorative buttons down the front, a soft gathered skirt and pockets (YAS!). I own this same style from the Autumn/Winter Collection and it’s such a favorite. This time around I did actually go down a size as it runs a little big. I’m wearing the size 36 which is a UK 8 and even then there’s still a bit of room in the waist. However with a summery dress like this, it’s sometimes nice to have a looser fit to be able to keep cool.

The material itself is lovely and light, perfect for a hot summers day. It’s a 100% cotton chambray which has some give to the fabric thanks to the weaving method. One thing to note is that it is a rather difficult dress to get wrinkle free! I struggled a fair bit with my steamer but perhaps a iron would be better. So if you are planning on packing it away on holiday, just make sure you have a iron at your destination!

The Rock Around The Clock Dress comes in sizes 36-52 and also in couple of other lovely solids!

As for the Susie Q Cardigan, this isn’t my first rodeo. I have two other Susie Q’s from past seasons as well as the Ice Skater Cardigans from Emmy’s Winter Collection. The Susie Q is a lighter weight cardigan made out of a cotton/modal mix. Even though it is indeed lighter than the Ice Skater, it’s still rather warm and is perfect for those inbetween season days or summer evenings out. I like my cardigans to be nice and fitted so I have the smallest size available which is the 34/36.  Thanks to the vintage shape and cropped length, these cardigans look brilliant either closed or left open, especially when paired with a swing dress.

The Susie Q Cardigan  comes in size 34/36 – 46/48. There were several gorgeous colours released this season but some have already sold out. Check the website to see what is still available.

I get a lot of questions about these cardigans as they are quite expensive. One question is – “are they worth it?”. Hand on heart, yes. A couple of the ones I have in my collection I have been gifted by Emmy but the rest I purchased myself. They are such great staples in my wardrobe and they last so well over several seasons. If I had to choose between the Susie Q and the Ice Skater then I would probably go for the latter just because of how incredibly toasty they are and I honestly don’t know how I would have survived the European winter without them. So yes, they are expensive but they are a investment piece. Buy a colour that you know you will get a lot of wear out of and you won’t be disappointed. Oh and also DO NOT WAIT LONG AFTER THEY ARE RELEASED. Each season these cardigans sell out. Fast.

  1. So beautifull dress.I love tartan too.Violet and green perfect colours for you and your beautiful copper hair color.Just stunning!

  2. I love the dress. I love the wine and tulips one on their site too. But 200+ euros is just not in my price range. :'(

  3. I adore Emmy Designs but I just can’t justify the price! It’s easy to fall in love in beautiful things when you don’t have to pay for them! 🙁

  4. Is the wool in the ice skater cardigan definitely not itchy? I own a partial wool skirt (not Emmy’s) and it is intolerable unless I wear, like, 500+ denier tights..

  5. What gorgeous colours together, love this dress on you! I do love Emmy clothing, unfortunately they can be a bit over my price range though! I love the cardigan as well! xo
