…make lemonade… or pretty clothing!
There’s something about a fruity print. I’ve always had a soft spot for them as they provide a bit of the novelty factor while in general not being to kitschy. It’s just the right of fun and sophistication.
I first spied this wonderfully zesty lemon print at the Hell Bunny booth at London Edge back in February. Summer still seemed like a eternity away but the brightness and boldness of the print made me pine for it even more.
It’s featured on several items in the Spring/Summer Hell Bunny Collection and while this might look like a dress, it’s actually a skirt and top. You see, there is a actual dress in this print, the Leandra 50’s Dress, but I’m a bit of a weirdo about pattern mixing and my brain just can’t handle the polka dot trim on that dress even if I can see that it’s pretty stinking adorable.
I however, opted to created a dress look by pairing the Leandra Lemons 50’s Skirt and matching peasant style top. By adding my own belt over the top, it helped to create a seamless dress look.
I’m wearing both a size small in these two items which seems to most of the time be my general size with Hell Bunny although there have been some past items that I’ve needed a Medium. The skirt however is definitely too big, I really needed a XS but by wearing a thick belt like this one, I’m able to cinch and hold the excess fabric in place.
The top is a great fit, the elastic around the arms isn’t too restricting or tight which can sometimes be a issue with peasant style tops. It has a cute little peephole at the centre bust which I like but it does mean that you have to accept that your bra might show through if you are a busty lady that can’t go braless. But I think as long as you wear a black bra, it’s not going to be particularly obvious.
I love the overall look of this outfit and my favourite part is the front pockets in the skirt with the contrast black trim. I love a good set of pockets! Hell Bunny only has plus sizes left of this skirt and top but they wholesale out to a number of online stores. With a quick Google search, I’ve found them on Retro Daisy, Atomic Cherry , Rock Collection, and Rockabilly Pinup but I’m sure there’s more.
