I don’t know about where you are, but here in London, summer is starting to feel like a bit of a distant memory. The days are darkening, the temperatures dropping and I find myself using the word ‘gloomy’ a little too often. But really, I can’t complain too much after having a wonderful week in the sun in Italy!
What DOES get me excited about the change of season is of course the clothing. As much as I adore a summery swing dress, I’ve always been a bit more of a Autumn/Winter gal over summer. The colour palette, the layering and there’s just more you can do with accessories! In my last Revival Retro Love List, I shared my favourite coats that are currently on offer in store and online. So for this post, I thought I’d focus on what would be UNDER those gorgeous coats. (and if you haven’t taken a gander of them yet, you probably should… #justsaying)
This week Revival Retro got in a new shipment of one of their favourite brands, Stop Staring. And part of that shipment was the Elisha Dress in all it’s black and purple glory. Made out of a comfortable and easy to wear stretch bengaline, this dress has a classic peplum with purple accents in the pleating – perfect to tie in the purple on collar and buttons.
To further add to the ensemble, I gathered up anything else purple that I could find in store and let me say, it’s a great time to be a purple-lover right now at Revival! Firstly, they’ve got a new range of handbags in various shapes and colours, including a beautiful royal purple. This shape I choose was the Elizabeth Purse but the same colour also comes in the Grace style.
Next I added a hat from the Atelier Millinery section in the store. This gorgeous wee purple hat is perfect for those of you who, like me, favour hats that don’t cover too much of the hairstyle. I added the Black Faux Mink Stole to tie in the fur details on the hat before the final accessory… shoes!
Probably the thing I was most excited about to add to this outfit because purple shoes are so few and far between! But Revival Retro come to the rescue and created a exclusive purple colourway of the Miss L Fire Amber shoes. These are such a perfect mid-height heel and the suede is perfect for either daytime or nighttime looks. They also have the Amber Heel in Gold, Silver and Green!
I love how the whole look came together in such a classic way, each item standing out on it’s own but working together so perfectly! And as for a coat to layer over the top? My pick would be the Voodoo Vixen Violet Coat from my latest design collaboration as it’s got the black faux fur to match with the hat and I love the combination of grey and purple.
For the second look, I started with the brand new Handy Pocket Skirt and built it from there. In my last post, I featured the Curve Flattering Women’s Jacket which is designed and made by Revival Retro themselves. Well, this skirt is it’s match and it’s perfect for winter!
It’s quite hard to capture the colour on camera, but it’s a lovely dark brown, almost salt and peppery texture. It’s a wool mix that’s fully lined and made right here in London. Complete with a zip and button fastening, pockets, A-line shape and below the knee length, this skirt is one of those wardrobe staples!
I think that this skirt is incredibly versatile and can be dressed up or down. The ensemble I put together is a little more casual but simply add the matching jacket and it’s transformed into something more dressy, especially with the addition of the Champagne Gold Grace Handbag.
I added the Every Day Blouse in Cream for a simple, neutral colour palette but then providing a pop of colour with the Vecona Vintage Silk Scarf in Aviation Print. I continued the more neutral, earthy colours with the rest of the outfit by adding a chocolate brown beret from Atelier Millinery and Remix 1930s Gramercy Shoes.
The overall look is a little bit preppy, a little bit wartime spy and definitely something I feel like you can conquer the world in!
Which of the two looks is your favourite?
