When I was on tour in Australia and New Zealand late last year, my last stop before coming back to London was Sydney. I’m used to my haircut clients arriving ridiculously well dressed and I often have serious envy over their beautiful outfits. But one of my absolute favourites was when @missscarlettsatine arrived in the one of the most beautiful skirts I had seen in some time.
Of course, I interrogated her about where it was from (as well as her shoes which I *may* have swiftly bought too) and found out it was the Miranda Skirt from USA brand Miss Nouvelle.

I’m really excited to have now teamed up with Miss Nouvelle to feature two outfits here on the blog AND host a giveaway over on Instagram (more on that below). The Miranda Skirt that I fell in love with so much will be up in the next week or two but in the meantime, I bring you the Emily Ann Dress in Atomic Print.

Now, personally, I believe that while a shirt dress can look relatively simple in design, it takes a knowledgeable and skilled seamstress to create one that fits well.
There’s so many elements that can go wrong with a shirt dress like the buttons gaping, the shoulders being too tight or the sleeves to restrictive. But with the Emily Ann, I could tell straight away when I put it on that there was going to be none of those issues and that Miss Nouvelle’s 10 years of experience in the fashion industry has been put to good use.

The Emily Ann Dress features self covered buttons all the way up the front (so there’s no zipper), cuffed sleeves, patch pockets, and my favourite thing to go with any dress – a self covered belt.
If you are a longtime reader of this blog, then you may have seen me moan about when matching belts are too long and I end up having to hack extra holes into them… well I am pleased to say that the matching belt for this dress did not require that in the least! Hooray for belts that actually match the size of the dress!

I’m wearing a size small in the Emily Ann (my bust measurement is currently 34″ and waist 26″). This puts me at the top end of the size small according to the size chart but since I like my dresses to be on the more fitted side, it’s the perfect fit.
As mentioned earlier, one big problem that can come from a shirt style dress (partially due to these styles often being made with a non-stretch material), is that the shoulders and arms can end up being too tight or restrictive. But once again, Miss Nouvelle knocks it out of the park and there’s absolutely no trouble for me in this area.

I love the addition of the patch pockets on the front, I think they really suit this style of dress – although I do wish that they were placed just a inch or two lower down the skirt so it would be easier to get in and out of them. But I am quite long in the waist so potentially wearing my belt lower than others and therefore closer to the pockets.

Dress | Miss Nouvelle
Bangles | Splendette
Earrings | Bow and Crossbones
Shoes | BAIT Footwear

The Atomic Print on the Emily Ann Dress is such a fun, summery print and has beautiful hues of turquoise, aqua, golden browns and baby pink. The fabric itself is a super soft cotton sateen that has a reasonable thickness and weight to it which I think helps with the superior fit of the dress.

A big thank you to Nicole Engelmann Photography for these gorgeous photos – we managed to luck out with the weather and actually have a sunny afternoon to shoot, in amongst many days of rainy British springtime!

It’s been too long since I last hosted a giveaway, so I’m super excited to announce that you can be in the draw to win a skirt of your choice from Miss Nouvelle!
