I’m back with another fresh set of images from Elizabeth J Pin Up and I’s photoshoot down at the Hamilton Gardens, and a new beauty from The Pretty Dress Company Vintage Rose Collection.
The Ava Pencil Dress in Vintage Rose is a dress that I like to consider the sassy cousin of the Tilly. It’s a much sleeker silhouette, but still has the lovely bow detailing on the shoulder – which as you should all know by now is my absolute favourite thing about the Tilly Dress (see it here).
The Vintage Rose print is the latest offerings from The Pretty Dress Company and it comes in a this gorgeous Amber colourway, and a pretty springtime pink.
As a self-proclaimed swing style lover, I felt it my duty to make sure I picked out at least one pencil style from the range to review, and the Ava was it. I am happy to say that most of the issues I have with pencil or wiggle styles, don’t tend to be a problem with the ones The Pretty Dress Company make, and the Ava is no different.
Some of the big issues I find with pencil dresses, is either that they don’t fit me well enough in both the waist and hips, they don’t stretch enough so movement is restricted and finally, that they ride up when I walk.
Now, I’m wearing a size 8, which technically is probably a size too small for my hips. BUT, thanks to the stretch in both the fabric and the lining, it’s able to accommodate for my wider hips, while not looking too big at the bust or waist. You can see in some of these photos that there is a little bit of bagginess around the waist, but it’s pretty minimal, and if I was super worried then I could simply add a belt.
As for the riding up issue, I didn’t find this a problem either! So even though I can be the problem child when it comes to pencil dresses, The Pretty Dress Company has not failed me to date.
The Ava Vintage Rose Pencil Dress is £115, comes in sizes 8 – 18 and is available in a number of solid colours as well as of course the Amber and Pink from the Vintage Rose collection.
Thank you to Elizabeth J Pin Up for this absolutely stellar set of images! Since we took these just a few weeks ago, the weather has turned decidedly more towards Autumn and I’m already missing the sun and warmth of this day… even if it made for slightly more uncomfortable photoshoot conditions!
