I absolutely love Miss Nouvelle, a brand I was introduced to at the end of 2017 by a lovely lady wearing their fabulously eye-catching Miranda Skirt. It’s still one of my favourite skirts in my wardrobe to wear!
After working with Miss Nouvelle a couple of times in 2018, I’m back to showcase one of their newest styles – The Lana Dress. This is a slightly different vibe to the previously fun, flirty and more 1950s inspired pieces on offer.
The Lana provides the classy sophistication of the 1940s, in 3 really interesting colourways. I really appreciate how non-typical the colour combinations are for this style, as often in the vintage reproduction world we can end up with a lot of the same colours and tones used.
The Lana comes in this fabulous Berry Red with Pink, a Olive with light green and a Black with Mustard. Made out of a rayon crepe, it’s light and floaty, which really works with the silhouette. There is so many fabulous details to this dress – contrast sleeves with zig-zag design, cowl neckline, matching grommet belt, asymmetrical peplum and pockets!
My favourite features are definitely the neckline/sleeve details along with how floaty and flattering the peplum is – as a pear shape, I’ve usually steered clear of peplum styles as it just accentuates my lower half even more. But the peplum on the Lana Dress feels like it would compliment may different shapes over one that sticks out more.
On the topic of pear shapes, I do wish to note a few things to do with the fit as it’s a little tricky with a A-Line skirt such as this. Because my lower half is 1-2 sizes bigger than my top half, you can see that the skirt looks quite different on me compared to the pictures on the model on the website.
This is because I am wearing a size small to suit my waist and bust, but my hips and thighs probably need a size medium or large. It still works, it’s just that the effect is much more like a pencil dress than A-Line.
So my advice would be that if you have a similar shape to me, to either size up (the nature of the sleeves and bust style would allow for it to still look good if it was a little looser) OR just be aware that it isn’t going to have a A-Line effect. It’s also always good to refer to the size chart on the website and if in doubt, just send them a message and they’ll be able to assist you.
The good thing is that this fabric has plenty of stretch, so there’s more wiggle room than if it was a less-forgiving fabric!
The Lana Dress is US$149, comes in sizes Small – 3XL and as mentioned earlier in the post, has two other colourways.
Thank you so much to Elizabeth J Pin Up Photography for this beautiful set of images in the Auckland Domain Winter Gardens!
