I am so excited to be working with a new brand here on the blog – Australian based Kitten D’Amour!
While I haven’t worked with them previously, they have been around since 2003 and it was one of the brands I discovered when in my first year of dressing pinup!
They released the most gorgeous sailor themed collection in 2012(ish) which I bought a few pieces from and I absolutely loved.
Their latest collection ‘La Parisienne’ really epitomises the history of Kitten D’Amour – the designer draws inspiration from her Great Great Great Grandmother who was a fashion designer in Paris in the late 1800’s.
Elizabeth J Pin Up and I were lucky enough to be able to return to the beautiful Opera Studio that we have shot in a few times over the years. It seemed like the perfect location for ‘La Parisienne’ since it’s full of antique furniture, gilt mirrors and opulence.
I’ve got three dresses to share in total over the next few weeks and the La Parisienne Wiggle Dress is the first. Featuring a figure hugging black skirt and gathered peasant style top, this dress has a classic elegance to it.
The contrasts between the top and bottom give the illusion of two separate pieces but with the convenience of a dress. It also means there’s smoother lines as you aren’t having to tuck anything into the skirt! I also love the curved shape of the bust as opposed to it being just straight across as it creates a lovely shape.
The blouse part is printed with illustrations of iconic Parisian landmarks, detailed with a black velvet ribbon. The elasticated sleeves and neckline mean that you can wear it on the shoulder or off depending on your preference.
Sizing with wiggle dresses for me is always a little tricky, especially with a new brand! Kitten D’Amour do provide a size chart with measurements which is great and according to this, my 34″ bust puts me just over the size 6, 25″ waist in between a size 6 and size 8, and finally my 40″ hips puts me at a size 12-14! So that’s a big range of sizes!
The team at Kitten D’Amour advised me that it would probably be best to go with a size 10 in the La Parisienne Wiggle Dress and I think that was definitely the best choice. While the bust is a little roomy, it’s not too noticeable and I’m able to squeeze my bottom half in just fine thanks to the slight stretch of the fabric. I was really impressed by the visible curve from the waist to the hips when the dress is flat.
The La Parisienne Wiggle Dress comes in sizes 6 – 18, is AUD$229 and Kitten D’Amour offer AfterPay too! There’s free international shipping for orders over $300 and free domestic shipping for over $200.
Stay tuned for more Kitten D’Amour in the coming weeks! A big thank you to Elizabeth J Pin Up and the Opera Studio for the fabulous photos.
